It doesn't matter how you play the game, it's whether you win or lose, and even that doesn't make that much difference. ~ Coach Finstock ~

Suing for Sport

Everone always says that you can sue anyone for anything, well check these out below. I guess that saying is true.

A man sues a Shoney's in West Palm Beach, FL for getting his soup order wrong. He claims the clam chowder he received instead of potato soup caused him pain and anxiety.

A Chicago man sues White Castle for $50,000 for getting burnt by hot grease after biting into an unreasonably dangerous and defective onion ring.

Dude with high blood pressure sues Denny's for over salting his ham, egg and cheese breakfast sandwich.

A man in Miami sues a Houston's restaurant for not giving him proper instructions on how to eat an artichoke.

A mother in California is suing McDonald's claiming that the toys in their Happy Meals make her kids want to visit the golden arches, thus making it harder for her to say no.

Woman in Michigan is suing a restaurant over a toilet paper incident. Once she was done with her business she reached out to the toilet paper and the cover on the holder fell on her hand causing an injury.

Maybe this is the newest game people play when they win the lottery!!

Georgia Not Part of the Group...

There are always a lot of complaints that teams in the South do not schedule tough out of conference schedules, the argument from the Southern fans is that the conference schedules are the hardest in the country so why should they play a hard out of conference schedule too. Well in recent years teams in the SEC have started to add tougher games to their schedules. Tennessee seems to always schedule tough home and home series with teams all over the country. Georgia in recent years has started to schedule and play in tougher out of conference games as well, which as a fan you enjoy seeing these games. Georgia has played home and home series with Arizona State, Oklahoma State and Colorado. They also have scheduled a home and home series with Clemson that starts in a few years. Georgia also has a Georgia Tech out of conference game on the schedule every year. It goes without saying that everyone has at least one or two easier games on their schedules to play directional schools from Div 1-AA (refuse to call this the FCS) or the SunBelt.

When Georgia hired their new Athletic Director (McGarity) he stated that he was bringing the philosophy that Florida has used for years. Florida generally plays three easy games at home as warm-ups and has an out of conference rivalry game annually against Florida State. McGarity even cancelled a home and home series with Oregon that was scheduled to start in 2015.

Well good news Dawg fans, McGarity not only scheduled Georgia to play in the 2011 Chick-fil-A Kickoff Classic against Boise State to kickoff the season, he has begun talks with Midwestern powers in football (Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Penn State). McGarity confirmed to georgia247sports.com that he would like to work on scheduling home and home series with one or more of these Midwestern teams later in this decade.

As a Georgia fan this is exciting news to show that we are not afraid to get out and play anyone, not to mention to spreads the Georgia brand. I know there is something to be said for playing an easier out of conference schedule and then play the SEC schedule, but I like one of these big games on the schedule every year too.

Atlanta...show up and support your teams

As of today, the Falcons, Hawks and Thrashers are on pace to make the playoffs. The Falcons at least sellout their games, but the seats are not filled so not everyone shows up. Even if they do show up, they can't seem to make it before midway through the first quarter. To make matters worse the Falcons are just about unbeatable at home, since Matt Ryan has become the starting quarterback the Falcons have only lost 1 home game. The fans still complain about the teams in ATL, it could be worse we could live in Pittsburgh or Cleveland, but at least in those cities the fans still show up. I challenge the ATL so-called sports' fans to get out and support your local teams, and let's shut up the media who takes every opportunity to crap on Atlanta.

The Thrashers this week moved into first place in their division, yet they barely get fans to see them play. Again the Thrashers play great at home and deserve a true home ice advantage. The Thrashers potentially have a special season going on and it is not that expensive to get into the rink.

Out of all three I can understand the fans being reluctant to show up to watch the Hawks, because as fans we have seen this movie before. The Hawks will make the playoffs as a 4 or 5 seed, make it through the first round series and get blown out in the second round versus one of the big boys from the Eastern Conference. I will say this though, the fans seem to show up when a quality team shows up and makes some noise.

The one thing that is against Atlanta is that their sports teams have not been around as long as some in other cities (Pittsburgh, New York, Chicago, Philly, etc). Those cities have generations of fans and it is what they do. In Atlanta the college teams have the generations built in, it is hard to get a ticket to a Georgia Bulldogs football game. In the South college football is king for sure. If all three teams make the playoffs, that would mean all four professional teams in the ATL would have made the postseason, that has never happened.

College Football Rules the South!

For those that needed further proof that college football is the king of the South, here you go. A Federal trial in Alabama was delayed due to the BCS National Championship Game on January 10th. The lawyer from Birmingham who was representing Hartford Fire Insurance Company filed a motion to delay the start of the jury trial stating that he was a lifelong Auburn fan and that he and his family had already bought non-refundable airline tickets to Arizona for the game. He went as far to attach pictures of his daughters in Auburn cheerleading outfits as an exhibit in the motion. To make the story even better the Judge granted the motion and stated "The Court has a unique understanding of the predicament of Hartford's lead counsel." The link below is for the motion, it is hard to believe that someone would actually submit this with the reasons listed, but as I stated above college football rules the South!!

Top 10: Worst NFL Uniforms (5-1)

5.New England Patriots - 1993. How you change from the classic look to this is beyond me, I love how the numbers are different on the sleeves and the chest. At least they went away from these quickly.
4.Jacksonville Jaguars - first season to current. No words necessary, another team wearing teal. More on helmets in a later blog.
3.Denver Broncos - 1960 AFL. I was not aware that UPS sponsored a team. These uniforms were hideous, but I actually did not mind them overall. It was good to see something different. To me it is a toss up between which one is worse, this one or their current uniforms.
2.Philadelphia Eagles - 1931. Another throwback that needs to stay in the closet. The color scheme comes from the defunct Frankford Yellow Jackets and were the original jerseys worn by the Eagles in the 30's.
1.Pittsburgh Steelers (Pirates) - 1933. This throwbacks were worn in 1994 during the 75th anniversary of the NFL. Hopefully they will never be worn again. That is the crest of the Pittsburgh on the chest. Looks like an old school soccer jersey.

Top 10: Worst NFL Uniforms (10-6)

The NFL is not immune to having its teams wearing horrendous unis. Again though there are teams with a lot of history, but some that just do not know how to get it right. Some of these I did not see when they were originals, but thanks to the throwback games I have been able to see some of the jerseys that should have never been worn. Here is 10-6, 5-1 tomorrow. Enjoy...

10.Seattle Seahawks - 1976-2001. Just not a big fan of the old Seahawks uniforms, something about the royal blue and kelly green. I like the new uniforms for sure over these.
9.New York Jets - 1978-1997. Not sure why the Jets ever changed their uniforms, but this look was horrible. The new jerseys or the old look to their current uniforms are by far the best. The Jets will make this list again.
8.Cincinnati Bengals - 1970. Think goodness they put Bengals on the helmet, otherwise they would have looked just like the Cleveland Browns.
7.New York Titans - 1960-1962. The team that is now known as the New York Jets. Not sure why I do not like these, but they are just ugly.
6.Tampa Bay Buccaneers - 1976-1997. The creamsicle uniforms were a perfect fit for this joke of a team. Not a surprise that once they changed their jerseys they won a World Championship. I did like the old mascot however.

Top 10: Worst College Football Uniforms (5-1)

5.Florida A&M - current. Not too much to say here, look at the picture.
4.Iowa State - current. Iowa State decided the best way to get better was to copy the USC Trojans uniforms, unfortunately it may be hard for me to tell the difference when I turn on the tv, it is not hard to realzie it is ISU, because you do not win.
3.Utah Utes - camo (2010). Utah broke out these unis for their game against TCU the weekend prior to Veterans' Day. I am all for supporting our troops,, but Under Armour took it to another level in trying to keep up with Nike. The whole look was awful. Did I mention that they got blown out by TCU as well.
2.Georgia Bulldogs- blackout helmet and pants (2009). No secret that I am a Bulldogs fan, but this jersey combination was horrendous. The only thing that is good about this look as it makes for a cool memorabilia piece for the office. You are Georgia, come out in the red jersey, silver britches and have at it. Not to mention you were not very good last year, this made it even worse when you got spanked by Florida, again.
1.Oregon Ducks - few years back. I actually do not mind their current jerseys as much as I disliked the ones a few years back. There is not that much difference, but at least the feathers make sense. Do not know what the truck matting or whatever that is on the knees and shoulders is for. I actually like their old school yellow and green jerseys (below), but those do not make money. This is the benefit of having Nike in your back yard and pocket. I think they have four different helmet combinations too, more on that in a later post.

Top 10: Worst College Football Uniforms (10-6)

Shocker that there was an issue with blogger, so here is my response to that ridiculous comment below.

"Well actually I am only 32 and like change when it is for the good. I actually like when teams change it up, but do not know if it necessary weekly, there is something to be said for tradition. You think Bama should change it up or just stay with what works?? Must be a Boise fan!!"

With bowl season a few weeks away its a perfect time for a college Top 10. As with MLB, college football has a long history which again includes some bad uniform choices. Unfortunately some of these are still being worn today, where as some schools have wised up. Here is my list of 10-6, 5-1 tomorrow.

10.Nike One-Shoulder - 2006. Luckily this was a one-time stunt by Nike. The folks at Nike must have been big Star Wars fans, as they tried to make them look like Storm Troopers. Miami, Virginia Tech among others took part as well.

9.Minnesota Golden Gophers - (9999). Not really sure what this is all about, but there are 6 M's on these.
8.Iowa Hawkeyes - wings. Iowa is another one of those college football teams that has a classic uniform with no need for a change. I wonder if this is where Oregon and Nike got the idea for feathers on the shoulders...
7.Colorado Buffaloes - . What a great idea, get rid of the classic jerseys who have always worn and wear these horrendous uniforms that do not make any sense. Go back the jerseys you wore in 1990, those are your best look. Is that a horn on the helmet?
6.Boise State Broncos - all. Maybe its the blue field, or hearing about them deserving a shot at the National Championship. Either way all of their jerseys are horrendous, the Pro Combat unis at the beginning of this season were potentially the worst. I guess when you play on Tuesday and Friday nights you can do this. The ones they wore this past week, all orange, further prove my point.

SEC Championship Game...Biggest Championship Game by Far

By far the biggest sporting event every year in the city of Atlanta is the SEC Championship Game at the Georgia Dome the first weekend in December. This year the game is good one, pitting the South Carolina Gamecocks versus the Auburn Tigers. This is a rematch from a game back on September 25th that Auburn won 35-27. I expect another great game at the Georgia Dome. Auburn has been amazing this year in their ability to come back from deficits and win, making great halftime adjustments. Until someone stops Cam Newton I will have to continue to believe Auburn will win the game. When asked who I want to win or who I will be cheering for I can honestly say I just want to see a good game, but as I stated above I believe Auburn will win. Auburn is one of those teams that does not kick a lot of field goals so when predicting a score you have to preduct Auburn's in the 28, 35, 42, etc range. The SEC is one of the only conferences I know where people also cheer just as passionately about the conference as their own team, so with that being said a lot of people I have talked to want Auburn to win so they can play for the BCS National Championship in January. I do not get too much into that thinking, but do see them playing Oregon when that game rolls around. The ultimate debate will come if Auburn loses as to who should play Oregon (assuming them win) in the championship game. Let's see what happens.

Fearless Prediction: Auburn 42, South Carolina 31
